"THEY HAVE BEEN TAKING DOWN REVIEWS TO MAKE THEM LOOK BETTER. THEY HAVE DELETED ABOUT 10 DIFFERENT REVIEWS TLDR; YOUR PACKAGES WILL BE STOLEN AT VELA. THERE ARE NO ADEQUATE PROTECTIONS IN PLACE TO SECURE YOUR MAIL/PACKAGES ETC While the leasing team is genuinely helpful and does what it can within its limited authority, the building’s overall security and package-handling systems are deeply inadequate. There is no security presence or concierge at the front desk, leaving residents completely exposed to repeated mail, package, and even food theft. For a property charging over $3,000 in monthly rent, the lack of even basic safeguards is unacceptable. Random delivery drivers are able to enter the building freely using access codes, with no oversight whatsoever. I have personally had packages stolen more than once—including items containing sensitive personal documents—and despite reporting these incidents, the building’s response has consistently been that there is nothing they can do. In one case, an Amazon driver delivering to another unit had access to the building, walked in, took my delivered package, and walked right out without any staff present to intervene. The leasing staff truly tries to assist, but their hands are clearly tied by management’s unwillingness to address systemic security failures. Residents deserve significantly better protections, accountability, and on-site support—especially at this price point. As it stands, it is extremely difficult to feel secure that any package delivered to this building will remain there long enough to be picked up. I have started getting my packages mailed to another address to prevent them from being stolen, I shouldn't have to do this, I cannot even trust that I will receive my packages again. Thoroughly unacceptable"
"This is the best place I’ve ever lived at! I highly recommend the Affordable Housing Program here. I feel so lucky to live at Vela. I have a water view from my apartment and the natural light is gorgeous. The amenities are all new and the work from home offices, rooftop, and lobby are all fantastic. The gym is the largest apartment gym I’ve ever seen. The building itself is super quiet, peaceful, and always super clean. I love the location too, it’s right by the water, close to the metro station, and there are tons of restaurants nearby. The staff and management are all great, especially David. There’s security at night for peace of mind, but the area itself is very safe. The only thing I don’t love is the key being on your phone. I’ve had a few times where the app temporarily locked me out and said I didn’t have access. It’s also harder to have people be able to come over when you’re away since there’s not a physical key you can give them. Overall, I love living here and highly recommend it. It’s a great place to call home :)"
"Staff is fantastic. Building is well located with plenty of amenities. Rarely hear apartment noise from other tenants. Gym is good could use an upgrade but very functional and rarely busy."
"I had the pleasure of visiting a friend this weekend at Vela luxury apartments. The property was really laid back and secure. The amenities were nice. The weather was good so I was able to enjoy the pool area. Who doesn’t love a rooftop pool? If I ever move to DC this would be an area of interest. So many restaurants and bars in walking distance. Definitely a place for a new start."
"Well my experience at Vela so far has been wonderful, thanks to Brian, David and Maximus. I’ve had an issue with the mailroom and having a package stolen also. So I understand the concerns as a resident. Unfortunately you wouldn’t think that some people who live in such a beautiful building would be thieves!! But some are!! Honestly I would like to see a difference with that. They do offer parcel pending so you can secure your packages more, I still need that.😩 For me the office team does an amazing job!!!"
